Thorny issue....

I've had a couple of walks exploring the hinterlands of Ryde this week and am enjoying my discovery of new places - remarkable combinations of light, frost and dew have coincided with the sudden fall of leaves to reveal the beauty of the protective thorns of Blackthorn and Rose, black and blue buds of Ash and Birch and corky barks of Maple and Elm.

My Blackthorn pictures seem to work the best - taken just as the morning frost melts away leaving dewdrops suspended on the thorn tips. The last picture below is a fine 'stags horn' Oak showing the frequent attentions of woodpeckers.
