Lines & ladders

Yesterday we had a fine sunny day on Stige Ø carrying on with my series of 'sky-ladders' drawing lines against the sky and offering the possibility of climbing to the stars. Each ladder made flat on the ground once raised has it's own life and takes it's own form - twisting, leaning and curving in different directions unexpected when assembled. The ladders are around 10 meters high though they soon shrink in the scale of the location. Jan Johansen has been my essential assistant allowing me to develop the idea and scale as we work.

In the afternoon I shifted location to my second piece that, by the shore, will form a different kind of drawing on the sea and sky and so far is closer to the running fence idea that I arrived with. Making and climbing without falling or pulling over the Hazel sticks has been the challenge so far, today and tomorrow both pieces must come to fruition before I head home to my next project.

Hi Daithi, thanks for the interest, no the Hazel doesn't grow like the Willow does - just by pushing cuttings into the ground. This exhibition project is temporary - being in situ till the 1st July, then being removed leaving the site back to it's 'natural' state. I'll be back there in three weeks so will post some pictures showing how the work has settled in.

cheers Tim
